What is Crypton?

Crypton is an engineered textile.  By exploring different characteristics of fibers, polymer impregnation and other techniques, the design industry's most resilient fabrics were created.  There are many different styles and options but, if it carries the Crypton logo, you can be assured it's engineered to meet the same strict standards of extreme stain resistance, anti-microbial protection, moisture resistance, extreme strength and breathable comfort.

How is Crypton different from "Scotch", or other non-stick coatings?

Crypton is not a sprayed chemical coating on the fabric.  The technology is licensed to mills where it is built into their textile designs.

Is Crypton environmentally friendly?

During the manufacturing process, all the chemicals generated are captured and recycled.  There is no effluent discharge into the environment.  Unlike many treated products, the Crypton patented systems are not solvent based.  The Crypton process emits only water vapor.

Who buys Crypton?

Crypton is widely used in healthcare facilities, hotels, restaurants, cruise ships, airplanes and other high use situations.  Now, the same protection is available in residential fabrics.

Things to avoid?

Do not use strong solvents to clean Crypton, just water based cleaners.  It is engineered to allow ease of cleaning and removal of stains that would ruin other fabrics, but is not 100% stain proof.  For more information click to read "How to Clean Crypton."

What about outdoor use?

Crypton is not intended for outdoor use although it has been used successfully in protected outdoor areas.  It meets the typical lightfast requirements for indoor fabrics.

Metro is Crypton's best selling basic cross-dyed woven, available in more than thirty colors.  Color is a funny thing, though.  People see colors differently depending on the light or time of day.  I recommend that you always obtain an actual fabric sample before you order.
